In early 2016, Newegg needed a strategy to enter the confusing and potentially lucrative category of Virtual Reality.
At Newegg, I pushed a full content strategy in VR’s infancy, aiming to establish Newegg as a leader in VR before other retailers. This approach included the creation of VR Central and a content + commerce strategy to capture top SEO and premium partnerships with HTC, Oculus and Samsung.
With VR content creation becoming a major focus for film and game studios, I crafted a number of professional-oriented projects to appeal to creatives looking to upgrade to the latest hardware.
Newegg’s VR Central was a major success, gaining top SEO for critical VR-related search terms as well as cementing strong partnerships with VR companies.
Ultimately, Newegg’s strength in the VR category played a critical role in Newegg’s purchase by a large Chinese tech conglomerate in late 2017.
